Selangor FC officially announced today Willian Lira as the Red Giants fourth new import player for the 2025/26 Malaysian League season, including international campaigns in the ACL Two and ASEAN Club Championship.

Born on 9 December 1993 in Fortaleza, Brazil, Lira began his career in his home country, where he represented several clubs in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B and Série C, including Icasa, Ferroviário, Portuguesa, and São Bernardo FC. On top of that, his performances in Brazil’s competitive domestic leagues laid the foundation for his move abroad.

Lira’s first major impact in Asia came in Japan with Ventforet Kofu, where he played two seasons (2021–2022), registering 18 goals in 70 J2 League appearances. He played a key part in the club’s historic 2022 Emperor’s Cup win, which became Ventforet’s first-ever major title, showing his ability and commitment to perform on big occasions.

He continued his career in Southeast Asia with Kedah Darul Aman FC in early 2023, making a strong impression in the Malaysia Super League by scoring 8 goals in 14 appearances. 

Following his time in Malaysia, he joined Chonburi FC in Thailand for the 2023/24 season, where he continued his prolific form, scoring 15 goals in 30 Thai League 1 matches. In 2024, he moved to the United Arab Emirates with Hatta Club, adding 13 goals and 5 assists in 23 appearances during the 2024/25 season.

Lira expressed his excitement to be part of the Red Giants family, ”I chose Selangor FC because it’s a strong and well-respected club. Having played in the Malaysia League before, I believe I can adapt quickly because I’m already familiar with the league’s style, the rules, and I know some of the players here, which will help ease the transition."

On top of that, Lira also shared his personal goal for his first season with the club, “My goal is to help the team compete for titles and, of course, to score as many goals as I can. I’ve done it before with other clubs, but now I want to do it for Selangor. I’ll give my best every day to contribute both on and off the pitch."
